Suspense, a premier anthology drama featuring stories of mystery and the macabre, was broadcast live from New York beginning in 1949 and continuing on until 1954.

The TV version successfully created the atmosphere of its radio predecessor by using that same identifiable opening announcement, “And now, a tale well calculated to keep you in…Suspense!- – accompanied by the familiar Bernard Herrmann theme played on a Hammond organ.

Many top stars of Hollywood and Broadway appeared on Suspense, including Charlton Heston, Paul Newman, Boris Karloff, Rod Steiger, Anne Bancroft, jack Lemmon, john Forsythe, Peter Lorre, Leslie Nielsen, Eva Gabor, Lloyd Bridges, Jack Palance, Jack Klugman, George Reeves and Lee Marvin.
